Who Am I?

The Past — Career Resume:

This resume is a combination functional and chronological one, with some overlap:

Mediation and Facilitation 2002 to present

Although I was involved in numerous facilitation and mini-mediation roles throughout my career, and in my volunteer endeavors, my formal training was not completed until receiving a certificate in Conflict Resolution from the Justice Institute of B.C. in 2002. I had earlier sensed a natural ability in these fields, so I pursued my passion in preparation for offering these services in my semi-retirement years.

Business Case Analysis and Capital Management 1998 to 2005

Continuing my work with B.C.B.C., I followed a prior corporate vision in developing and implementing the 'Business Case Initiative' for this crown corporation. Training was provided in partnership with a college professor for approximately 300 employees.  This work led me to serve for 18 months on a provincial task force charged with developing a new Capital Management Framework for the Province, and allowed me to offer three years of consultancy and training in these fields.

Public Sector Accommodation Management 1992 to 1997

Working on a salaried basis with British Columbia Buildings Corporation, a Crown Corporation of the B.C. government, I managed the department responsible for providing alternative accommodation solutions for about 500 requests per year. This department was also charged with keeping the overall vacancy of owned/leased space within the provincial inventory at a figure below 2%, and with providing detailed demand-side financial analysis and supply-side lease/own studies.

Real Estate and Consulting 1988 to 1992

Primarily to B.C. based union pension funds, I provided a technical/financial/planning service to vet proposed development projects of a commercial and residential nature, usually resulting in a comprehensive report to assist the Boards of such funds in making their investment decisions. Projects of note were the 37 acre 2500 unit Collingwood Village sky-train  development in Vancouver and the 20 acre 2500 unit Gateway sky-train development in North Surrey.

Real Estate Investment and Development 1976 to 2005

In partnership with relatives, we purchased single family houses and one apartment in the Seattle and Phoenix markets in 1976-78, selling the houses by 1988, but keeping the apartment until 2005. In partner-ship with an appraisal consultant, we developed a strata title office building in Kamloops in 1981.

Engineering Consulting and Management 1964 to 1984

Practicing in a consulting capacity in structural and civil disciplines, I worked on over 2000 projects in Alberta and B.C., as an engineer and/or partner- owner. Projects ranged from low-rise industrial / commercial / residential buildings through to multi-story residential. Over the years, we expanded our services to include prime consultant work and construction management on a wide range of projects throughout the southern half of B.C.
