Mediation

Facilitation

Who Am I?

Examples:

Mediation Example #1 ... within a reasonably functional family, the last parent struggled to reach his 100th year while with failing physical health, and his four children grappled with the many decisions necessary in these declining years. At death, it was discovered the one child, who had been power of attorney for the last three years, had consummated a couple of questionable business deals whick were not to the liking of the other children. Although the feelings of the siblings ranged from disbelief to anger, it was possible, with the cooperation of everyone, to create solutions that worked for all parties, and maintain reasonable family solidarity into the future.

Mediation Example #2 ... a recent contractual conflict left two business parties in a position of impending litigation, almost certainly costing them over $10,000 each and up to two years of their lives. A mediation process conducted by myself in three sittings over five days, resulted in a successful collaborative agreement, cost the parties $600 each, and actually, by their own admission, enhanced the relationship between the parties.

Facilitation Example #1 ... various real estate and construction organizations in Victoria in 2001 were each struggling to attract qualified speakers to noon hour events, usually in competition with each other. Recognizing the chance to cooperate and collaborate, I engaged the leaders of each organization, achieved buy-in of key goals, brought them together, and allowed a composite organization to gel, not only achieving excellence for the quality of the speakers, but  drawing audiences that were approximately ten times larger than before. This organization exists to this day.

Facilitation Example #2 ... recently, an independent B.C. government organization required facilitation in the updating of strategic goals and resultant employee work-plans and performance measures. I worked in conjunction with a business partner who provided the framework and goals for the two day session. It was clear at the outset, that organizational dysfunction existed, and some employees were either disengaged or cynical. By the end of the first day, those same employees were focused, engaged, and participating. The second day was easy compared to the first.
